Core Value I. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.
I remember when professor Hodges repeatedly told the class that every writing you do is a draft. And that a writing is never perfect until it goes through many writing rewrites and practices. For example, my visual analysis on buzz driving was much understandable and well developed when I rewrote it through my professor’s feedback. I came to realize that writing requires several drafts and thought to it. For my research paper, I had my argument position fixed and closed for my research topic. But after conducting further research and getting more in depth information in my topic, I changed my argument position. I found the stone money assignment very interesting to learn and explore from. I was to see from different perspective and understand that money is not just piece of paper.
Core Value II. My work demonstrates that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.
I usually can’t have conversation on something I don’t have background knowledge. I at least try to understand it but not take part in the discussion. I always make sure my response is correct and understandable before I posted it on the blog discussion.
Core Value III. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.
Before beginning my writing, I always questioned myself what the purpose behind my writing is. I kept in mind who the writing is intended for and what purpose it serves. When I wrote my visual analysis add, I didn’t take my audience in consideration. Professor Hodges’ feedback helped me to write the 30 seconds video in clear and detailed way so my audience could visualize it. In this course I learned to give more detailed knowledge and understand it while I am writing it. Another assignment required me to write summarized article. I had to analyze an author’s article and then summarize it in my own style. I basically had to follow the theme of the course and present why this article is counterintuitive in my summary.
Core Vale IV. My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.
Ever since I took this class, I read my writing over again to see if I have made any mistakes. Through professor Hodges’ feedback, I noticed my mistakes with sentence structure and grammar in my writing. I tried to learn and improve my writing to prevent those mistakes from occurring over again. When I was first assigned 3000 words final paper on my topic, I was unsure on keeping the topic. I wasn’t sure If I would be able to find that much information on my topic. But over time, I was able to find pieces of different information and put it all together into my paper. The short argument assignment kind of helped out as well.
Core Value V. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.
During this course, I had learn to properly cite my sources and make correct in text citation. I know my responsibility as a writers to avoid plagiarism
